On the journey from the source of the Ahr to where it flows into the Rhine
The AhrSteig trail connects the diverse landscapes between Blankenheim in the Eifel and Sinzig on the Rhine over a distance of about 85 kilometers. The starting point is the source of the Ahr, which rises beneath a historic half-timbered house in the small Eifel town. From there, the trail leads over scenic heights, through quiet forests, open meadows, and striking valleys—always offering impressive panoramas and sections close to nature.
In seven varied stages, the AhrSteig explores the region from the High Eifel through the Upper Ahr Valley to the wine-growing landscapes in the lower valley. The route alternates between high-altitude trails and nature-oriented paths, repeatedly offering sweeping views of the landscape and a variety of nature experiences.
The AhrSteig is certified as a “Wanderbares Deutschland” trail and stands for high-quality hiking experiences that combine the enjoyment of nature, cultural history, and varied landscapes.
